Build: Givin’ a 17 Year ol’ Chassis Some Viagra

OMG there is a hole in your roof!!!...hahahahaha

Last week was a good week and lots of progress made. I never wrote much since I was focused more on building than writing, but really there wasn’t much to say anyway. I had everything laid out in my head on how I was going to do it…having three weeks to ponder helps…so really it just came down to how much I could get done in a day. I never hit my personal quota any day, but I usually aim just a little higher than I think I will be able to do.

Wednesday and Thursday last week saw the beginning of the roll cage…the real beginning. No more Main Hoop trials just full on get stuff in the car. I did my final Main Hoop with less hesitation as my note taking from the first two paid off and it came out high and tight. I was able to use the forward bars I didn’t think were going to fit, but really it just came down to trimming a little off the “foot” end. Now they fit really well! Next up was getting as many straight bars in as daylight would allow…I managed to get the Top Cross Bar, Forward Cross Bar, and both Lower Door Bars in.

Last night, I worked on it a bit more and got the Rear Down Bars and Base Plates in. The Strut Bar and Diagonal Hoop Bar is next on the docket for tonight. Then after stitching areas of the interior and boxing the seat cross members, the Upper Door Bars, Door Bar Braces, Harness bar, and Dimple Die Plates will follow.

I did a little wire labeling and got plugs marked for removal during the “down time”. It should roll along nicely after I finish up the chassis.

Door bars will be like the blu808 vette.

This is not the seat that will be going in the car.

Did this to keep steering wheel placement the same as stock. The original cross bar will be trimmed down to as little as possible, and is really just there to hold the wheel.

Ready to strip down, remove wiring then re-loom.

There are like 6 or 7 sub harnesses in a S14. Gotta love basements - where stuff goes to die.
